Hill’s South Gate Visitor Center extends hours of operation

Starting Dec. 11, the South Gate Visitor Center will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The visitor center is closed on federal holidays and family days.

With the recent suspension of the Trusted Traveler Program at Hill, the new hours will allow the 75th Security Forces Squadron to mitigate in processing visitor passes.

75th SFS officials said there has been a more than 50% increase in visitor pass requests since the program was suspended and the wait for sponsors to get a visitor pass can sometimes be an hour or more. The schedule change is expected to decrease that time by half.

Sponsors should submit visitor requests up to seven days in advance of a visit, but with as much notice as possible within this window. By doing so, it will give the 75th SFS time to complete the required background checks and alleviate the need for the sponsor to meet their visitors at the South Gate to get their pass.

All visitors are required to have a valid state issued ID card and are subject to a criminal background check.

Base employees can request a visitor pass by accessing the visitor center SharePoint from a government computer at https://usaf.dps.mil/sites/HillAFB/VCC/SitePages/Home.aspx.

Other considerations:

• Guests sponsored through the visitor center SharePoint must arrive during visitor center operating hours.

• For a single-day event with five or more visitors, submit a Visitor Authorization List, or VAL, request no later than three business days prior to event.

• Visitors with short-term passes (up to 60 days) must pick up their pass on the start date or the request becomes invalid.

• Visitors with longer term passes (61-365 days) must pick up their pass at Pass & Registration located in building 430.

• Visitors may be disapproved or already approved visitors may be denied access in certain situations, such as real-world Force Protection Condition Bravo or higher.

Sponsors must be registered in in the Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, to be authorized to sponsor visitors. DoD-issued ID holders are automatically enrolled into DBIDS. Other personnel such as military contractors will need to go to the visitor center to enroll.

Based on current Health Protection Conditions at Hill, 75th SFS officials said visitors are reminded to have protective face covering on regardless of their immunization status before entering the visitor center. Visitors who do not have a protective face covering on will be turned away due to the mandate.
