HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- Maj. Robert Campbell, 570th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron director of operations, provides a depot maintenance overview to fighter pilots from the Air Force Reserve 419th Fighter Wing and active duty 388th Fighter Wing.

The 570th AMXS was activated in June 2015 to perform depot-level maintenance and modifications on F-35 aircraft across the Air Force.

The Ogden Air Logistics Complex, which employs more than 8,100 personnel, hosted the tour Nov. 18 to give pilots a behind-the-scenes look at the F-35 when it’s on their turf. Mostly recently, the ALC repaired several F-35 aircraft that had problems with lining in the fuel tanks.

“The ALC was instrumental in getting us back in the air quickly,” said Col. David Smith, 419th FW commander. “They also performed modifications that were critical in helping us reach initial operational capability on time.”

The Air Force declared Hill’s fleet of F-35s combat ready in August.

Hill is slated for three operational F-35 squadrons and a total of 78 aircraft by the end of 2019. The 388th and 419th FWs fly and maintain the Air Force’s newest fighter jet in a Total Force partnership, which capitalizes on the strengths of the active duty and Reserve components.

The ALC also performs maintenance on F-16, F-22, and A-10 aircraft.
