A first-class stamp cost 5 cents and the price of gas at the pump hovered at 15 cents in 1966.

While prices have certainly changed since then, what hasn’t wavered is the service a federal civilian employee in the Ogden Air Logistics Complex has given to his country.

In front of a standing room-only crowd of co-workers and customers, T. Leslie 'Les' Dawson, a production material supply technician in the 309th Maintenance Support Group, was recognized Nov. 15 for 50 years of federal service.

Dawson started his career at Hill AFB on July 14, 1966, after graduation from Bonneville High School in Utah.

He said he’s worked in many different areas on base and held many positions throughout his lengthy career. He said his current job working the customer service counter at the material inventory control center is undoubtedly his favorite.

Among the awards he’s received over the years includes civilian of the quarter and civilian of the year.

As part of the recognition, Dawson received a traditional 50-year service pin and certificate from Brig. Gen. Steven J. Bleymaier, Ogden Air Logistics Complex commander, as a token of appreciation for his service.
