Annie Kitterman, Hill Air Force Base cultural resource manager, shows children from the base’s youth center how to craft pipe-cleaner horses April 22. The horses replicated split twig figures originally made by members of a hunting and gathering culture during what archaeologists call the Late Archaic period, 2,000 to 4,000 years ago. The crafting event took place in conjunction with Earth Day in the base’s housing area where earlier the children planted a tree. (U.S. Air Force photo by Paul Holcomb)
