The Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots has come to Hill Air Force Base to conduct toy collection and distribution through Dec. 22.

The campaign, which began in October, asks for caring Americans to drop off new, unwrapped toys at collection sites located at around base.

The toys are then picked up and sorted in a central warehouse for distribution by the Local Toys for Tots Coordinators.

On Christmas day, Marines, local welfare agencies and churches will distribute the toys to needy children.

"We cover approximately 19,000 square miles in Northern Utah, southeast Idaho and western Wyoming," said Ben Setter, Marine Corps League detachment 1159. "The Ogden Marine Corps League Detachment has been the local community organization for the last four years, during which time the number of children we have helped has increased 40 percent."

Although, with recent economic conditions, the Marines fear that they might not reach their goal of serving 8,500 children this year.

"If we can get support from the folks at Hill, we might meet this challenge and hopefully exceed our goal of 8,500 and reach 10,000 children," said Mr. Setter.

Those who would like to donate a gift or help by volunteering their time should contact the Ogden Marine Corps League at (801) 525-0147.
