GenCorp Aerojet CBU-89A/B "Gator" Weapon System

The CBU-89A/B Gator Weapon System was an air-delivered conventional free-fall cluster bomb unit (CBU) that was activated upon release from the carrying aircraft. The bomb weighed 710 pounds and consisted of a KMU-466/B adapter kit, a SUU-64/B bomb dispenser containing an integral fuse, seventy-two BLU-91/B antitank mines, and twenty-two BLU-92/B antipersonnel mines.

After impacting on the ground, the mines were armed within two minutes and would detonate by either target detection, some manner of disturbance, a low-battery condition, or expiration of its self-destruct time. The Ogden Air Logistics Center at Hill AFB was the program and logistics manager for this weapon system.

The Gator Weapon System was successfully deployed during Operation Desert Storm. It could be delivered from A-7, A-10, F-4, F-15, F-16, F-111, and B-52 aircraft.
