AN-NAJAF, Iraq -- Iraqi children at the Al-Manathera Internally Displaced Persons Camp near the city of Al-Najaf wait in line for clothing Feb. 2. Air Force Maj. Chris Gay, a division chief with the 507th Aircraft Sustainment Squadron at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, collected more than 1,300 pounds of clothing and shoes donated by his family, friends and co-workers living in three states to help hundreds of children at the camp. The camp is the largest of eight scattered across Iraqi and houses more than 2,500 Iraqis, including 205 school-age children. These families fled their homes following years of sectarian and terrorist violence. The major is currently deployed with a U.S. Army unit based in Baghdad. U.S. Army photo

Volunteers from Hill Air Force Base gather together to bag cookies. More than 45 cases of cookie dough were donated by HC Brill and cooked by members from Hill. The cookies were made for Hill AFB dorm residents and employees working on Christmas Eve.

Employees of the squadron donated fabric, batting, yarn and finances for the event. Four charities have been chosen to receive the donations; a shelter for women and children, a 24-hour crisis day care, a parent and teen youth program and the Airman & Family Readiness Center here at Hill Air Force Base.

KIRKUK REGIONAL AIR BASE, Iraq - Senior Airman Thomas Benincosa, 506th Expeditionary Security Forces Squadron, keeps a vigilant eye during night operations here Nov. 2. In the background, oil refineries burn off excess oil. Airman Benincosa works mid-shift for Alpha flight doing patrols around the perimeter of the base and on guard stations along the fence line. Kirkuk is the only base in Iraq completely patrolled and guarded by Air Force Security Forces and Airman Benincosa is just one of many security forces members making that happen.
