C-130B Cockpit Simulator

This cockpit simulator was used to train pilots, copilots, and flight engineers to fly the Lockheed C-130B Hercules cargo aircraft. In simulators, aircrews learn flight control location and function. They also learn what to do in emergency situations, such as during engine failure or loss of flight control. Simulators allow fliers to practice maneuvers that would be dangerous to try in a real aircraft, like stalls and spins.

The cockpit has the pilot's seat on the left, the copilot's seat on the right, and the flight engineer's seat in the back. At the front of the cockpit are the flight and engine instruments and landing gear handle. Above are the fuel controls and engine fire extinguishers. Below in the center are the throttle and propeller pitch controls, trim, flaps, and radio controls. The small wheel to the left of the pilot's seat is for steering the plane while on the ground.
