HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah – As of April 27, all designated tobacco use areas have been removed from the Hill AFB Military Treatment Facility and its nearby grounds  in accordance with Air Force Instruction 40-102, Tobacco Free Living.

The MTF campus encompasses buildings 545, 546, 547, 550, and 570 along with all contiguous areas surrounding the base clinic to include parking lots, lawns and other outdoor areas. Occupants and visitors of these buildings can use a newly designated tobacco use area located north and across the street from the base clinic.

A tobacco-free MTF campus policy minimizes the health risks of secondhand tobacco smoke exposure, especially to vulnerable populations and medical patients, said Kevin Egger, 75th Aerospace Medicine Squadron health promotion coordinator.

Tobacco use is prohibited within MTF indoor work places as well as in privately owned vehicles while on the campus.

Tobacco includes all products that may be configured to deliver nicotine, including but not limited to cigars, cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, smokeless products that are chewed, dipped or sniffed, and any other nicotine delivery system that the Food and Drug Administration defines as a tobacco product.

A tobacco-free campus will promote a culture of health and wellness that is befitting a medical facility and will also assist staff, patients, and visitors who use tobacco to quit, said Egger.

The 75th Medical Group pharmacy department offers a combination of tobacco cessation medications and behavioral change interventions to help ensure the journey to being tobacco free is successful.

If you have access to medical care at the MTF and desire to quit tobacco use, you can make an appointment by calling 801-586-9847.
