Hill museum continues Plane Talk speaker series during April

The Hill Aerospace Museum hosts a plane talk series featuring speakers related to heritage of Hill AFB, the U.S. Air Force, other military branches, and many other subjects related aerospace and the defense industry.

Plane Talk takes place on Saturdays at 1 p.m. in the newly renovated museum auditorium. Admission is free.

The following speakers will be featured through the end of April:

April 21, Bruce Carmicahael

Carmichael, a retired Air Force U-2 pilot, is a native of upstate New York. Carmichael graduated from Colby College (Waterville, ME) and was commissioned through Air Force ROTC.

His first assignment was to Webb AFB, Texas, to attend pilot training. Upon award of his wings he began training on the B-52D Stratofortress at Carswell AFB, Texas, with a follow-on operational assignment to Dyess AFB, Texas.

At Dyess, he served in a number of operational positions and was an instructor pilot in the B-52.

Following the assignment at Dyess, he applied for and upon completion of a rigorous interview and flight evaluation process was accepted to be part of the U-2 program at Beale AFB, California. From Beale he deployed worldwide to fly operational U-2 reconnaissance missions. He was an instructor pilot in both the U-2 and T-38 aircraft.

Carmichael has over 4,500 flying hours in T-37, T-38, B-52 and U-2 aircraft.

April 28, Sterling Poulson

Poulson is retired Air Force and the chief meteorologist at KUTV 2 News in Salt Lake City. He has become a familiar face to news viewers, joining the station’s weather taem as an anchor, weather producer and meteorologist in December 1989.

This veteran forecaster graduated with a degree in meteorology and gained his weather experience during his ten years with the U.S. Air Force. During that time he was assigned to the National Emergency Command Aircraft, 1st Airborne Command Control Squadron in direct support of "Air Force One" at Andrews AFB, Maryland.

He was also a severe storms forecaster assigned to the Air Force Global Weather Center and also provided aviation forecasts in support of Air Force and Department of Defense missions worldwide.

He served a thirteen-month tour in Vietnam from 1970-1971. He served 11 years with the Utah Air National Guard, and recently retired from the Air Force after 27 years of service.
